Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the commonly asked questions. If you have more questions or want to learn more about Equus Genetics’ personalized genetic services, contact us.

Genetic results can help you determine what distance races to put your horse in, breeding matches, and medical treatment, just to name a few things. Genetic testing results should be used in combination with training, nutrition, and veterinarian care.

Our genetic testing is over 99% accurate displaying the correct information regarding geneotype. Horses will typically follow the standards for a certain marker, but, like humans, there may be different expressions of a gene influenced by environment and care. Using genes in combination with training and veterinarian advice is a great approach to getting the most from your horse’s results.

Your horse’s test results stay confidential. You may share the results of any Equus Genetics test with who you choose including your veterinarian, potential buyer, or breeder.

No.  Our collection methods are noninvasive. We use both hair samples and saliva samples to perform DNA analysis.

If you are a researcher who wants blood samples analyzed, we can accommodate those requests.
